Extension

If your apprentice or trainee has not completed their requirements by the end of their contract an extension may be arranged.  Contact ApprentiCentre for options available to you and your apprentice/trainee.

Suspension by mutual consent

If you and your apprentice/trainee agree the training contract may be suspended for up to 12 months.  During this time, the apprentice may continue their off the job training for six months.

Suspension may be for reasons such as medical or personal reasons, temporary lack of work or maternity leave.

You are required to advise ApprentiCentre within 21 days of the suspension.

At the end of the suspension period the apprentice/trainee resumes work and training.

Cancellation

Traineeships and apprenticeships cannot be legally cancelled without approval of ApprentiCentre.  Seek advice from ApprentiCentre if you are considering cancelling the apprenticeship or traineeship.  Situations can often be resolved without taking this step. 

An ApprentiCentre Officer can assist you with mediation/dispute resolution.  ApprentiCentre will provide mediation for all trainees and apprentices.
