Changing your contract

Extension

Always contact ApprentiCentre when considering changing your contract.

If you have not completed all your training by the end of your contract an extension may be arranged. Your employer will have to agree to extend your contract.

Suspension by mutual consent

If you and your employer agree your apprenticeship/traineeship may be suspended for up to 12 months.  Training contracts can be suspended for reasons such as medical, maternity leave, personal reason and temporary lack of work.  At the end of the suspension period you have to return to your employer.

Cancellation

Traineeships and apprenticeships cannot be legally cancelled without approval of AppreniCentre. Seek advice if you are considering cancelling your apprenticeship or traineeship. Situations can often be resolved without taking this step.

An ApprentiCentre Officer can assist you with mediation/dispute resolution. ApprentiCentre will provide mediation for all trainees and apprentices, and formal dispute resolution if mediation is not successful.

Out of Contract Register

If you cancel your apprentiship/traineeship and wish to continue training while you look for a new employer you can put your name on the Out of Contract Register.  For six months this will allow you to continue off the job training and also to be referred to new employers by ApprentiCentre.
