What are First Click and Second Click?

The First Click grants program was established, as a result of a report, 'Bridging the Digital Divide in Western Australia (2001)', to provide learning materials and community based grants aimed at people wanting to take their first steps towards computer literacy.

The 'target groups' for First Click and Second Click training are people who are from regional areas, seniors, women aged 40 to 54 not in employment, youth, people from low income households, people who are disabled, Indigenous or people for whom English is not their first language. These 'target groups' are a result of the 'Bridging the Digital Divide in Western Australia' report and Departmental commitments.

Participants in First Click training can expect to learn basic computer literacy skills, including how to operate a computer and how to use the Internet and email.

Second Click was introduced in 2005 and offers people who have already acquired basic computer literacy skills the opportunity to extend their computer literacy skills training through on-line learning, or other agreed learning pathways.

The training offered through First Click and Second Click does not involve testing of participants and will be provided to participants free of charge.

Grants under the First Click and Second Click programs are focussed on communities coming together and suggesting initiatives that will see people in their community gain basic computer literacy skills. They encourage the use of volunteers and focus on encouraging widespread use of resources that are already available and cannot be used to provide hardware.

A variety of not-for-profit, community-based organisations have been funded to deliver First Click and Second Click training starting and finishing at various times. To view a list of organisations funded, please click here.
