Community learning providers

Community learning refers to a diverse range of structured educational activities organised by local communities generally in response to the interests and requests of people in the community. Community learning programs are usually very flexible in the way they are run, so that they suit people of varying abilities and backgrounds. There are Community learning programs across many different areas of interest.

Community learning courses do not usually lead to qualifications but might provide a pathway through to more formal education and work-related training. Community learning is one of the ways to reduce the barriers that some people experience in accessing education and training to gain work related skills and credentials. For others, Community learning courses are satisfying because more personal or social goals can be attained. Community learning is a good option for adults who want more informal kinds of education.

Access & Equity

VET Access incorporates Access and Equity and Adult and Community Education (ACE) areas. The branch provides leadership to the VET sector in ensuring equality of access to learning opportunities in VET and ACE non-accredited programs. Part of this role is to enhance the capacity of the ACE sector to provide a wide range of learning opportunities and educational pathways for the community.
